I am an advertising case study for Dos Equis. Prior to 2007, I believe I had a Dos Equis on maybe one occasion. However, my life changed when I saw the commercial at the top of this entry.
Why would I NOT choose Dos Equis after seeing The Most Interesting Man in the World? His hobbies and interests are very similar to mine. (In reality, I do nothing that he does.)
I would like to go deep sea fishing, although I have never been. I am sure I could rescue a giant bear from a trap, even though I don't even like camping or the wilderness.
In the new ads, he is playing jai alai. I would like to play that sport. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2SSZA0CjdQ.
The answer, of course, is that there is no reason that I should not be drinking Dos Equis. It's that simple: When I drink beer, I should be drinking Dos Equis.
So, yes, I started choosing it over other beers because of the commercials. Also, I drink the Lager, not the Ambar, just like The Most Interesting Man in the World does in the commercial. I happen to thoroughly enjoy the beer now, so I am more than happy that it is my beer of choice. But I never would have given it a chance if it was not for the ads.
Overall, this entire campaign is great marketing. The ads just went national. I have been to their Web site 367 times. There is some sort of tour going on. Just terrific stuff. And, it works: They got me. Now I just need to grow a beard.
That is interesting. I can't recall a recent ad that made me run right out and buy a product but my 19 month old daughter loves drug commercials. She especially loves the one with Sally Field for Bonvia. No matter what she is doing she has to stop and watch. I wonder if that means she will grow up to be a pharmaceutical rep or a druggy?
ReplyDeleteron, i find you interesting. love the new photo from dell. and, i am proof that this new obsession for dos equis is real. our refrigerator is stocked at the moment.
ReplyDeleteNo amounts of beer ads would make me run out to buy a beer. I don't like the taste of it. But, if I am really thirsty and there is no other cold drinks in the fridge, I might try an ice cold Red Stripe or a Shandy(beer flavored with your favorite soda)!...it’s a European thing!
ReplyDeleteWe know you can easily sprout a beard as evidence in your winning the CCEA beard growning contest a few years back, so get growing
ReplyDeleteI need to do more things in my tuxedo.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see and hear that to be the most interesting man in the world a "foreing accent" is required.... well, I guess my "interesting" factor just went up....
ReplyDeleteneedless to say I, too, am a big fan of the ads and the beer (though I enjoy the Amber over the Lager). The spirit of their advertising is so refreshing and entertaining - I hope this style catches on and maybe I wouldn't be so focused on pre-recording tv so I can avoid having to watch ads.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and honest. We are all more impressionable than we know...or would like to admit.
ReplyDeleteI too once had an awkward moment just to see how it feels.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite campaign since the Holiday Inn "Mark" spots. I'm not pounding Dos Equis yet, but I feel like I owe it to them for the entertainment they're providing.
